to celebrate argot s fifth year of releases, we re launching a series of compilations boldly entitled american dance music. argot s first ever various artists compilation continues its mission of showcasing homegrown talents, assembling a cast of familiar faces and welcome compatriots for the inaugural edition. american dance music vol. 1 features the long anticipated return of the black madonna, who debuts her new collaborative project with rupert murray, throwing shapes. you ll recognize argot stalwarts savile, olin, todd osborn, maxine & cleo, and hippie priest on the tracklist. we ve also invited friends noncompliant and alex falk to the fold. with future volumes we aspire to look even further afield and cast the spotlight on many diverse talents who make up american dance music. much of american dance music vol 1. is aimed squarely at the dance floor, whether it s todd osborn s smooth and playful romp, 80s are here (part 2), or noncompliant s acid tweaked ode to girls everywhere, femslash. throwing shapes comes bursting from the gates with the raving stomp of heatstroke, channeling midwest raves as much as the thomas bangalter tunes inspired by them. savile offers the growling stepper, reality is a sound (share power mix), while alex falks vines provides an effervescent vocal moment. olin and maxine & cleo double down on hypnotic motifs: the former s 2d rhythm whips snare riffs off the walls of a late night jam, the latters imagine yrself catches dancers in a lockstep house groove with stimulating vocals as its key. the compilation concludes on hippie priests dream machine, whose melancholic melodies and cinematic scale twiddle heartstrings with a deft hand.

moon harbour are delighted to welcome a huge summer signing for their next ep: foremost uk producer huxley turns out three club rocking tunes that all make the big impressions he is known for.
over the last decade, huxley has produced a number of huge hits that fuse myriad four four styles into exciting and arresting new forms. his diverse lp from 2014 showed off a range of styles from peak time to downtempo to jungle and came on aus, while other labels like hypercolour have also showcased his ever subtly evolving style. here he is in fine form once more.

the leipzig based label ascending branch is back and it s jimmi hendrik who gives us the rush on the floor this time. the ep title tausendsassa makes it clear and so his new ep comes with 3 strong original tracks from acid to some disco flavoured house music right up to a hot dirty bombshell straight for the club! the main track acerbic sweetness was released on freude am tanzen s digital imprint fat-zig and already gained support from artists like kerry chandler, karotte, mathias kaden or marc romboy! to round things off, kleinschmager audio from mo s ferry delivers a deep version of this classic track, which directly get s under your skin! highly recommended!

two of the best tracks off the brasileira lp get an updated dancefloor treatment by selvagem, carrot green and joakim. those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of cantico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiura) on the dancefloor know it s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didnt make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the brasileira material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix lamento africano/rictus? it would be the perfect package.

as a contrasting follow-up to our first single from rooteo & mahura’s metta album, the second single on made in green records keeps the format intact with entirely different results. deadbeat’s remix on part one was both respectful and subtly transformative, on part two, new york’s upcoming max mcferren, whose busy 2015 included eps on ultimate hits, allergy season, and 1080p, brings us a startling reinterpretation of album closer harmal very much in keeping with the vein of raw, aggressive house coming from brooklyn since that scene’s resurgence. the original version of harmal finishes the album in fine style, blending tablas, celestial electronics, and short melodica phrases that gradually swell with layers of vocal samples and orchestal pads before reaching a climax and slowly dying away in gradually receding layers of ambient electronics. mcferren’s remix leads off with only a bare framework of techno percussion. the entry of a sampled section of melody from the original signals a rapid transition to more abrasive territory, with sheets of metallic noise slashing through the high end, short vocal syllables stuttering, and an insistent bass pulse building up and breaking down with at least one element constantly in motion.

tom flynn marks his first appearance on exit strategy, starting off with a strong package of four tracks. each of them tends towards a slightly different side of his ecstatic and clean production style - making this a very coherent well balanced collection of killers.

alessio mereu joins andrea ferlin to create a brand-new duo: aleandro. the two sardinian artists have both been producing for a very long time, but this collaboration promises to deliver quality with 1921 ep.
the a-side kicks off with 19, a soothing track with a strong presence of modulated synths and pads, perfectly balanced with deep basses and kicks. its continual bassline only encourages the rest of the instruments to develop organically, making this one a very special journey throughout its length. the b-side 21 is more influenced by techno with heavier kicks and basses. the duo use trippy sonorities to catch people’s attention but beware: this track will even make your grandparents boogie!

aula magna records presents atmen by mekas, a storming record that reveals the artist s latest techno explorations in full effect, featuring stockholm ltd label boss par grindvik as guest remixer. a techno statement shaped by melodic and rhythmic interactions that draw the listener into the artist’s profound sound world.
the a-side opens with the powerful beat of clark nova, a cut that moves forward with a modulating synth line and simple but cleverly designed percussions. this is followed by unknown soldier, an intense techno weapon that reflects the distinctive sound of mekas.
the b-side features both versions of atmen, starting off with par grindivik’s dance-floor rework of the title track that combines a fresh arpeggiated motif and a powerful groove with the emotional spirit of the original. atmen closes the record, an epic ambient techno track built with deep atmospheric synth lines on an intelligent stripped down breakbeat.

bringing in milestone number ten for x-kalay we’ll be kicking off a series of various artist eps. whilst taking in 3 continents brings a certain geographical diversity, the aim of this record was to create a cohesive release bound by the common themes of electronic music we love at the label.

proving he knows how to work a dancefloor, rising star latmun makes his debut on hot creations with the mighty footsteps, featuring vocalist amy douglas. in equal measure, the b side piquant delivers another heavy hitter.
a certified tech house bomb, footsteps is full fire from of the off. new york based vocalist, amy douglas, brings extra heat, adding a distinct intensity in the build up. with a current track out on soul clap records and an upcoming ep with juan maclean as part of their peach melba project, amy is one to keep an eye on. one the flip piquant offers another peak time killer for the dancefloor.

1997. drexciya dont have no phone. theyre too busy to do your remix. mad mikes response was short and to the point, enough to put off some, but not vincent koreman. addicted from an early age, the dutch producer dug deeper and deeper into the mythology and mystery of james stinson and gerald donald. the sounds, images and ideas conjured up by the detroit electro duo pulled koreman in, his fascination growing ever more intense as the underwater dwellers sonically prospered. fast forward twenty years and that fascination has not diluted one drop, in fact the aquatic dream of the wavejumpers is the inspiration for recolonization. these tracks would have never had existed, says koreman, if it wasnt for stinson and donald creating that great, energetic, abstract electronic music and coupled it with an original vision on the african diaspora, art and culture. this music is an homage to th e enigma of drexciya, a tribute to the machine marine men who pioneered electro and a vision. drvg cvltvre continues that vision, one of an underwater race that has reconquered earth, overcoming big business, corporate greed and water pollution to reclaim the surface from man. forget mankind. our time is over, recolonization is here.

giant records 10th release is from new york born adam collins and limited to 150 hand stamped and numbered copies. adam is widely known for his work as one half of production duo omni am, along with marky star and counts derrick carter and evil eddie richards and a whole host of others, amongst their fans. adam’s release for giant is titled - day2day and has all the trademark’s of adam’s wonky, left of field, slightly off kilter grooves - day2day builds and snakes itself into a bottom bass heavy house jam - chicago style keys mould the snare and hats into an infectious work out - with an alien like hook that keeps it all slightly wobbly. the next cut is from the super talented carl finlow under carl’s random factor guise, a beauty in its own right ! super tight drums and a punchy random factor bassline take’s this mix on a journey through many shades of electronica - as the track swells nicely with warm atmospheric pads and sprinkles of emotive keys, with an electro style hook that keep’s it all swinging in carl’s trademark sound. the next mix is from la based producer mieka du franx. mieka’s mix strips the original down to the bare essentials and gives it a tuff minimal feel. the last mix is from echo of glory, which see’s echo take the track on a acid tinged work out - adding dubbed out vocals and super subbed out bass.

smashed atoms make a return after launching the magic circles label earlier in the year, bringing more of that sassy disco flavoured house music with a fondness for the good old way of doing things. the nods to rapture are hard to ignore on cut this way even if the ingredients are fresh, and there s no denying its the perfect formula for an addictive dancefloor cut with an old-skool hip hop monologue over the top. lost someone is a more sprightly affair that plays off bouncy synth lines and another discoid drum groove to create its infectious good time message.

limited to 300 copies! following his recent releases on tartelet records and oye, uffe kicks off the nos classics label with a record consisting of three mutated disco tracks that marks the start of his own new copenhagen-based label. run together with fellow tartelet affiliates vktr and jeppe wolmer (of vivian international) the first records a-side is a dubbed out percussive testament to the darkest and saddest times of uffe s life. a2 is a melodic and dreamy homage to one certain apartement located on the lijnbaangracht in the jordaan area in amsterdam. on the top floor of this worn down old house there was light to be found in these dark times. on the flip-side tings gets trippy. the title track finds uffe deeply intertwined in an occult-like bass-heavy ritual. an attempt to escape reality and cure the scandinavian misanthropy and the grey weather it comes with. a twelve minute voodoo disco tool perfectly crafted for a dancefloor which most probably does not exist.

french producer okain has long been entrenched in the minimal house movement, from time spent on four:twenty and tsuba through to memoria, no fit state and now shoring up on dogmatik. babylon is a sharply focused workout with playful organ trills darting in and out of the mix, while radio therapy gets into a light-headed, bubbly state of mind thanks to some shimmering synth work. permeable drops a little dubby magic on the track and r4r5r6 finishes the ep off with a more muscular groover for when you need to keep the energy up on the dancefloor.

ambient shoegaze duo aris kindt launch the new kingdoms imprint with their second album, swann and odette. picking up where their first record (2015Æs floods) leaves off, swann and odette is an evolutionary leap forward for the duo. the sonic palette is deeper, the grooves more sparse and the melodies are given more room to seep deep within a mix so expansive it feels almost tactile. this is heady, opulent stuff. the album is immaculately produced and cunningly arranged to sidestep easy classification while not sacrificing accessibility and authentic feeling. aris kindt is the collaborative project of gabe hedrick and francis harris (scissor and thread). harris has previously released the albums leland (2012) and minutes of sleep (2014), both of which have been lauded ôfor (their) extensive use of live instruments, a contrasting feature to his work done beforeö (last.fm, 2016). building on this approach, hedrick adds his own sonic signature in effects-laden layers of electric guitar and modular synthesizer. collectively, the album swells and reverberates to create a seamless interplay of synths and instrumentation cast loose from their origins and awash in oceanic delay.

music from memorys final compilation of 2017 sees the release of the double album 1 by 1, which brings together the works of american experimental musician geoffrey landers. during a period spanning from 1979 to 1987, this denver, colorado based multi-instrumentalist, composer, record producer and engineer, conceived several solo albums. only two of these, the ever decimal pulse and habitual features along with the single breedlove were ever released on vinyl. being heavily involved in the local industrial/punk/new wave scene and wanting to create a recording studio available to record artists regardless of their financial circumstances landers set up the packing house studio in 1981. this analog 8-track recording facility was located in a former slaughterhouse in the stockyards of denver and was a place of significant activity for the next three years with the studio releasing recordings from numerous artists most notably allen ginsberg.

the complete twr72 - lucid release wasn’t enough so it gets a remix treatment by psyk, henning baer, rod, neznan and twr72 itself.
psyk kicks off with a tom based space out remix of lucid. heavy soundscapes and pads are layered over the fine rhythm of toms. henning baer takes care of aporia with a weird metal loop kinda vibe and a straight forward beat rhythm to keep the speed.
twr72 gave colloquial a groovy treatment. with minimal, filtered and slightly oldskool elements they changed the original parts into a little killer. talking about minimal, on the flipside rod delivers greatness on lucid with his cut and slide technique. neznan closes the ep in style, because his style is impeccable. when you thought you’ve heard it all, neznan jumps in. an experimental take on erudite is what you get. and like always, there are hidden messages in his music.

jules etienne has been skirting around labels such as apersonal music for a few years, but here makes a strong statement with a new record for cocktail d amore. triangle des bermudas is a swinging yet cosmically inclined jam powered by warm synth arpeggios, which regular collaborator massimiliano pagliara then nudges up into crafty deep house territory. cuban omlette is a delicate affair that interweaves pattering percussion and nagging synth lines to make a particularly heady brew before johns job finishes the record off with a richly layered drum track that should have djs across the board getting tricky in the mix.

new 030303 release. john heckle s first one for 030303 starts off deliciously with translate- being a moody and melodic and bouncer that caters to a twisted dance floor. terix, the opener on the b-side is a beautiful reminder of derrick mays detroit, rhythm is rhythms kao-tic harmony in particular. the end of this record then, is like the end of most nights: with lots of melodies going on and a stomping rhythm hear me is by far the most mind bending track of this excellent 12inch.

rod malmok (aka rod from previous klockworks fame) kicks off the eponymous label with his debut-album back to square one.

under his guises blessed initiative and ketev, as well as his own name, composer and sound artist yair elazar glotman has explored extended techniques and processes to forge new sonic textures and musical forms. compound picks up where the previous solo work under glotman’s own name - 2015’s Études - left off. the acoustic sound palette has now expanded from solo contrabass into a trio including pianist rieko okuda and percussionist marcello silvio busato.

variations on memory is an ongoing project by max schreiber, who records memorial day songs intuitively, the way they were carved in his own memory. schreiber takes the national memory to the most personal place and creates his own interpretations of the classic songs. the songs are usually recorded in one session. the final outcome, with its off-keys and inaccuracies, gives a new meaning to these memorial songs, and formulates imaginative soundtracks to hebrew horror movies.

after making waves a few years back via his potatohead people project (with astrological) and co-producing illa j s critically acclaimed self titled lp, vancouver based playboy & producer nick wisdom steps out from behind the boards to deliver his first solo release for bastard jazz. the -intimate strangers- ep mines deep into nick s proclivities for disco, hip-hop, and house flavours. -good times- kicks things off with a snapping four on the floor, deep rhodes chords and a rollicking bassline and vocals courtesy of mr. wisdom himself. -feelin alright- heads into outerspace disco territory with cosmic synths, walking bass, and sultry vocals courtesy of reva devito (hw&w, kaytranada). on the flipside -don t tell- brings in some 80s boogie vibes with downlow vocals from san francisco s k-maxx, while -rock the cash bar- is an instrumental party rocking hip-hop jam sounding like a modern day showbiz & ag.

after releasing his debut album paradise earlier this year to much critical acclaim, b. bravo has swung back around for yet another trip to this island of cosmic delights, tapping into some of our favorite producers & extended fam for a special 12inch to accompany the digital of paradise remixed. the a-side kicks off with fool s gold producer sammy bananas turning the squelchy funk of freak it into a filtered french & italo inspired funky house monster, perfect for peak time on the dancefloor, while los angeles xl middleton deliver s a low slung g-funk & boogie inspired take on the album single i m for real. on the flip, uk producer smbd (better known as simbad) turns lay it on the line a classic 80s synth beast thats been tried & tested around european festivals all summer, while grandfeather (aka anton borin) comes through with a spacey & deep downtempo funk reversioning of cant keep my hands off you. los angeles-based adam mori aka b. bravo adds a touch of love to every soulful groove he gets his hands on. his signature sound, connecting outer space g-funk, r&b, and dance music has made him a name in the electronic music scene as well a key player in the worldwide modern funk movement, being hailed by the likes of xlr8r, fact magazine, gilles peterson and many more.

uk house & techno heavyweights dusky return to their 17 steps label with the classic house indebted ‘square miso’, picking up swiftly where this summer’s hugely successful ‘cold heart’ ep left off - the lead track an ever present in gerd janson’s summer dj sets.
already recognisable to many from dusky’s festival sets as well as jackmaster’s recent circo loco terrace recording, ‘square miso’ draws on the swing of classic nyc house with soulful, cut-up vocal samples and tightly programmed beats, whilst paying tribute to the ‘90s italian house classics with its distinctive piano melodies - with a dash of shades of rhythm-era uk rave for good measure. as well as the club-ready original, a beat less piano and strings ‘reprise’ is also included.
a darker, detroit-nodding club tool, ‘lf10’ blends heavy-hitting stabs, atmospheric melodic textures and house grooves. an immersive roller, like ‘square miso’ it serves as another example of the duo’s ability to blend different influences into unique hybrids.
with 2017 releases from b.k.r & jamie jones, christian piers, bwana and kiwi, dusky’s 17 steps has become an increasingly prolific outlet of forward thinking house and techno - with support from gerd janson, midland, len faki, maya jane coles, tiga and george fitzgerald among others.

khotin continues with his second release under the waterpark alias. side a goes fully epic with just under 12-min running time. lush pads, bleepy fx and breaks building up to an explosive high pitched acid sequence. the flipside keeps rolling with aquatic grooves, zappy snares, and a drifting piano line. all generously extracted for a bonus ambient version to round off side b.

secondo is back with a brand new two-track 12- aimed squarely at the more discerning dance floors out there. ‘shakin’ on the a-side is a disco inflected bomb full of funky edits, sampled guitar licks and an irrepressible hook that gives the whole track a distinctly italo boogie feel. meanwhile, on the b-side ‘nine toms’ is a more laid back affair, a mid-tempo burner with soulful groans, off-kilter percussion and a wicked throbby bassline guaranteed to get you grooving. look out for future what about never releases in the coming months – a welcome return for am/pm and a debut ep from valerie from the galerie, both scheduled before the end of the year

from deep within the uk underground special things can emanate without warning. this is exactly what happened here, a special one-off white label remix of one of disco’s biggest stars by one of the founding members of possibly the most influential electronic music crews in the land? yep.
originally released as a promo-only white label, this remix has been wreaking havoc on dancefloors over the course of the summer and has featured heavily in the hessle audio crew’s dj sets. gaining rave reviews on sites such as ra and with people literally passing out with excitement over this very special remix / re-edit it felt only right to give it a reissue on the label that serves as loleatta holloway’s spiritual home - salsoul records. the hype is real on this one, do not sleep!

following on from 2016’s excellent “birsk” single on futureboogie, philipp lauer returns to the label with a new three track single. the “las brisas” ep kick starts with the mechanical funk of “pile”, acidic notes drip over heavy ebm drums whilst a hovering ‘resse’ style bassline dominates, the influence of early house and industrial dance are ever present here on this belter of a track from the tuff city kids and talamanca system player.
more acid pressure can be found on “clipper”, a blazing and dynamic slice of anthemic balearic dance. searing pads and lustrous melodies pour over the robust drum machine workout, that’ll have dancers reaching for the skies! real stirring stuff from lauer, which continues with closing track “tyco”. ricocheting stabs and cowbell hits bounce off a sturdy kick drum as the track flourishes with more on-point melodies and a snaking bass. dripping with emotive refrains, lauer brings his very best to the table here, and rounds off an ep that’s most definitely all killer and no filler!

this june session victim returned to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album. listen to your heart is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lp see you when you get there. here we present the third of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew.
we kick things off with almost midnight, another uplifting summer jam loaded with trademark session victim energy and positive vibrations. next up we have castle for sale which drops the bpm’s for a dub influenced, spaced out jam session sounding like king tubby and nightmares on wax getting stuck in the proverbial lift with a large bong for company.
flipping over we have a head over heels, which goes heavy on the lush orchestral strings and a brilliant bouncing moog bassline bringing a deft touch. finally we’re treated to thermal explorer, which incorporates some wonderful larry heard-esque keyboards for a perfect wind-down track to close the release.

the second release from ftp explores the sweet spot between detroit ghetto-tech, juke, and jungle. the opening track, “phonky no. 69,” is designed for maximum level booty dropping effect. it starts with a raunchy vocal hook over a booming electro beat, before unleashing nasty breaks, at which point the dance floor is guaranteed to pop off. handle with care when deploying this bomb, the first release from dj dr-660. the second track on the a side paces upward and into juke territory. it fills up the sonic space with lush pads and crisp jungle breaks, before breaking down to thick rhodes chords, in eternal rashad fashion. the b side opens with a track from the mysterious newcomer shadow moses, who teases with some euphoric pads, before launching a massive lardossian missile that heads straight for the booty. the compilation closes with a electro beat executed with surgical precision and care, filled with hypnotic percussive elements and a life-affirming baseline. it was lovingly distilled and synthesized in frankfurt directly from the detroit source.

the artist known as g-23 continues his journey to the head of the gum under the schooldesk underground with this release on torn hawks valcrond video. this multi-faceted italian producer also deploys weirdo sounds under the name secret rave and strange audio dreams, often on his own label art-aud. he has also released under the alias moscow death disco on helena hauff s return to disorder. remixes of access code from valcrond affiliates decor and mr. husk start off each side. both will pound and smear club meat all over the countertop. lets pound those veal cutlets so thin you ll be able to see through them like flesh-pink stained glass. a2 brings us the sleazy slouch of bleep shots. it sure sounds like a crew of developmentally impaired bullies out to steal your lunch money, so hold on to your fanny pack. finally, the title track closes things out in a brilliantly uncomfortable way. ars trip is a headache you d pay to have.

zwo fremde was recorded in 1994 by zky and daniel paul (aka cab drivers). the next year cabinet records was founded. the track now comes in full length on vinyl, mastered from the original tape. this gem is a master piece and a blueprint for many tracks these guys made. also other artists are inspired by this timeless classic, like konstantin sibold: it was the model for his track >mother< he said. backside 50 is the perfect b-side and rounds off the 50th release on berlins house label no. 1.

with lukas lehmann, a new face joins the footjob-squad. out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as this is why ep. the a-side kicks off with the discoish banger q&h and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by lorenz rhode not only famous for his releases on compost records or exploited but also for taking detroit-swindle-liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. the deeper side of lukas’ sound is represented on the b-side. starting with edgy piano chords, solid/fragile (coexistence) introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track. with its distinctive strings, nothing but a heartache makes for a semi-sentimental yet still hips-moving finisher.

an-2 and samos have turned the clock back to finish off a couple of sessions theyd recorded together years back. maxim samos is our keen friend and sophisticated guitar player from minsk, belarus that we know for years. his first appearance on theomatic was back in 2008 with space-rock tune alpha storm, which received lots of positive feedback and found its way to the prins thomas live at robert johnson compilation. as well as guitars, maxim can play almost any string instrument and, on one of his erstwhile trips to istanbul, he dropped by a music store, picked up a saz and immediately set it alight, blowing away the entire staff. after scoring a big discount, he came out, clutching it in his hands. an-2 commented on samos playing on the saz during one of his first visits to minsk, and immediately suggested cutting a track together something that took 10 years, but the wait’s been worth it. what weve got is surreal halal-acid-folk-disco affair, perfect for whirling dervishes or dancing the dhikr. the storys continued on the b-side, where were treated to a tale of trips in a gti, before finishing with a nordic saga about cold fronts coming at us from behind the polar circle.

Ähnlich auf die zwölf bumst das 4. reguläre lords of acid-album »farstucker« aus dem jahre 2000. mit »lover boy-lover girl« und »sex bomb« sind noch ein paar produktionstechnisch aufgebrezelte altlasten aus den neunzigern dabei, doch auch die zehn neuen stücke fahren mächtige breakbeats, brachiale gitarrenüberfälle und fleischfressende club-electronics auf. dazu nehmen engelen und sängerin jade 4u nebst weiterer gespielinnen den hörer in »slave to love« mit schmackes von hinten oder führen ihn bei »kiss eternal« mit krachledernen mitteln in die kusserotik ein – nicht nur auf dem dancefloor, versteht sich.

we have been waiting for pele to crop up on a release from the footy mad rothmans and what a time to play that hand card. teaming up once more with his aussie team mate dawn again and a first apperance from leeds legends clandestino. the first track from the ep cobblejam is nothing short of first class, a worthy italo, chuggy, powerhouse that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. the b-side finds us with the slightly strangely named woman for a day theres nothing strange about the track itself though. a deep and dark track that slowly drives forward into the abyss. finishing off the record is an excellent remix from the lads over at clandestino. their dessert trance vibe brings the record together as sweetly as pele brought together that 1970 world cup winning team.
